The Manor Hotel, Crickhowell

Our second holiday for the summer of 2012 has been arranged for the week commencing Sunday September 9th, and will be situated in the pretty village of Crickhowell on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales.

Our home for the 6 night break will be the delightful MANOR HOTEL which is a small private hotel situated in its own grounds on a South facing hillside above the river Usk, just to the West of the village. As can be seen from the picture, it is a lovely old Manor house which once belonged to the Everest family who named the highest mountain in the World after one of their celebrated ancestors.

There are some 22 bedrooms at the Hotel, all different in size and outlook but all with en suite facilities and comfortably furnished. There is a good sized function room which is a popular venue for weddings, and a smaller room on the first floor ideally suited as a card room and will obviously be used by ourselves for the duplicate sessions and any Bridge talks we arrange. The Hotel has a very good bar area, a comfortable lounge and a restaurant as well as a terrace with commanding views of the countryside and where drinks and meals may be enjoyed "al fresco" in fine weather. The Hotel also boasts a modern spa with a heated swimming pool and a Jacuzzi.

During our stay in Wales we are planning to do 2 or 3 gentle walks around the area with a couple of more challenging walks for the more adventurous. This will include a climb of Table Mountain and its twin peak called Sugar Loaf. There are lots of extra things to do in the Beacons including a visit to the Brecon Mountain Steam Railway, a visit to the picturesque literary town of Hay on Wye, a visit to the only Whisky distillery in Wales near Penderyn as well as a wine tasting at the Sugar Loaf vineyards. There is even a Heritage centre nearby where you can visit a coal mine and an old ironworks! The small town of Crickhowell is very beautiful with lots of flower displays on the shops and buildings, several good pubs and some pleasant riverside walks along the Usk valley.

There will also be a chance for any Golfers in the group to have an easy round or two at the Par 3 Old Vicarage course in Llangattock which is about 2 miles from the hotel. Other larger and more demanding courses can be found a few miles further away.

The Manor Hotel is a charming and a friendly place with a first class restaurant serving locally resourced food from its own farm nearby and serving 3 courses each evening with a choice of menu. As usual, good quality wine will be included, and a special midweek gourmet dinner is planned for our extra enjoyment.

As the hotel only has 22 bedrooms we do advise an early booking for this unique holiday, as many of our regulars have already expressed an interest in joining us. The cost of the 6 night holiday will vary between £610 per person in a standard room, through middle price rooms at £640 per person up to £700 per person in the 4 best rooms. There are 3 single rooms without a single supplement with a shower only, but the better rooms will have between £30 per night and £60 per night extra to pay for single occupancy. Well behaved dogs are also very welcome at the hotel.

These prices include half board accommodation, unlimited use of the Health club and Spa, a welcome cocktail party, wine with dinner, all the Bridge and administration costs, the guided walking tours, and the Gourmet dinner night.

Please CONTACT US for a booking form which should be returned to us with your deposit of £160 per person.
